Princess Anne set to officially open Lowestoft’s newly-built Gull Wing Bridge
Princess Anne will visit Lowestoft to officially open the town’s new £146 million bridge next month.
The Gull Wing Bridge opened to pedestrians and motorists last month following the start of construction in April 2021.
The long-awaited third crossing - spanning 345 metres across Lake Lothing - was built to help ease congestion in the town centre and shorten journey times.
The Princess Royal has been invited to the official opening and naming ceremony, which is set to take place on Tuesday, November 19.
Cllr Matthew Hicks, leader of Suffolk County Council, said he was honoured to have The Princess Royal participate in such a historic occasion for the town.
He added: “The Gull Wing is a truly impressive and significant piece of engineering.
“Since it opened to the public last month, it has been fantastic to hear so many people tell us how the bridge has reduced traffic congestion and made travelling around Lowestoft easier.
“I look forward to welcoming The Princess Royal alongside everyone else who, over the years, helped to make this bridge possible.”
Timings and event details will be provided closer to the time.
